Beneficial Farms is open to talking with anyone interested about the needs of the CSA and what they are growing or doing. Beneficial Farms has a very dynamic operation and network of farmers, but they want to expand their support of farms as much as possible.
The weekly purchases of Beneficial Farms varies by season, crop and customer needs, but they average at least a 1000# of produce.
Beneficial Farms strongly encourage their farmers to participate in Food Safety training, in compliance with the FSMA. They generally try to inspect the farm before or shortly after establishing a new relationship as to understand the farm's safety practices. Any greens consumed raw must be washed by the farm and be consumer ready. Other products can vary in how washed they are, but this is discussed on a crop by crop basis. All produce that Beneficial Farms purchases must be grown without pesticides, or if an Organic approved one is used, it needs to be disclosed at the onset of the conversation. Labeling of cases is required, FSMA guidelines being the ideal standard. Beneficial Farms are fine with reused boxes, although they require that new liners are used. Packaging guidelines are established with the order. Beneficial Farms asks for a variety of different packaging types, weighed into specific weight bags, bunched to rough weights or in bulk. Beneficial Farms has 2 staging coolers in Santa Fe and an aggregation warehouse in Albuquerque. Delivery of product will be to one of these locations, and there is a lot of flexibility with hours of access.
Beneficial Farms prefers to talk before the beginning of the season, when the grower has free time. They like to establish a connection and discuss farm practices, pricing, crop planning, etc.
Beneficial Farms does not require liability insurance but they recommend that they do for their own protection.
Farmers are paid within a 7-14 day period for most orders. Some larger commitments require a larger turnaround time.
